Upper Deck Announces Lawsuit Over ‘Disney: Lorcana’

Upper Deck have announced that they have filed a lawsuit against Ravensburger over the release of Disney: Lorcana.

The suit alleges that when a former employee left Upper Deck to work for competitor Ravensburger, they took with them confidential and proprietary information on an unannounced game. Allegedly the information was used to develop the upcoming Disney: Lorcana trading card game. Upper Deck is seeking punitive damages and restitution, as well as keeping Ravensburger from releasing their game.

Unless they are compelled to do so otherwise, Ravensburger have planned the offical release for Disney: Lorcana for the weekend of Gen Con 2023 in August. They have a massive slate of Series 1 products for the game’s launch and all of the Gen Con events sold out in a matter of minutes.

While we will leave the legal aspect of this matter to the professionals and the “armchair lawyers” of the internet, one would have to assume any delay in this game’s release could make for a financially catastrophic event for Ravensburger. If there is any validity to Upper Deck’s claims, we would assume it would call into question the integrity of any potential future trading card game releases from Ravensburger as well.

What do you all think? Is there credibility to Upper Deck’s claims or are they just grasping at straws? Let us know on any of our various social media sites.
