Warhammer 40K: Leviathan Preorder Bonuses

Games Workshop has announced multiple preorder bonuses for the upcoming release of Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan.

Like the video game companies at the height of the console wars in the mid-2010’s, Games Workshop has decided to divide and conquer by offering different preorder bonuses to different stores. Some are practical, while others…not so much. The preorder bonuses are:

  • Players that preorder directly from the Games Workshop webstore will snag themselves two double-sided game boards. From the included picture, it appears to be a desolate street on one side and a wasteland on the other side. When the two boards are placed together, they make a 30”x44” play area (the size needed for the Combat Patrol game mode). This is relevant as the Leviathan box includes enough models to make a fully playable Combat Patrol of Space Marines and Tyranids.

  • If preordered at a Games Workshop specialty store, players will get a Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan-themed metal tin that includes several acrylic tokens for use in the game. The tokens include 6 40mm objective markers, 12 blue battle-shock tokens, and 20 various wound tokens of various values.

  • Finally, if players are preferring to support their local game stores for this massive launch, they will find two vastly different items for their preorder bonus. First there is a sheet of 28 double-sided deployment zone markers. These appear to be cardboard and just pop out. The second option is a collapsable neoprene dice tray featuring one of the original Leviathan teaser images printed on it.

Ultimately, time will tell on how readily available any of this will be to the community at large. Games Workshop has been under a lot of scrutiny from the community for their preordering practices as of late. Multiple releases, including massive Kill Team season box sets, have been selling out at an alarming rate due to staplers only to be on online marketplaces moments later for an exorbitant mark up. One would think that moving the preorders to a print-to-demand system would be far more profitable for Games Workshop but they are determined to stick to their current course of action.

Which one of the preorder bonuses are you hoping to score when the preorders go live on Saturday (June 10th)? Are you going to preorder from your local game store or try scoring one of the premium items?
