‘Expandable Hobby and Paint Rack’ Kickstarter From Cobalt Keep
Cobalt Keep is currently in the middle of a new Kickstarter campaign for an expandable and modular paint rack, known simply as the Hobby Storage Rack.
While paint racks are nothing new in the hobby, what makes the Hobby Storage Rack from Cobalt Keep unique is that its push-fit design (ie no tools or glues required) makes the configuration options nearly infinite. Each Paint Bench, or shelf, of the rack is magnetized to allow for the convenience of taking your paint selection away from the desk. They feature two insert options (4 of 5 slots) that accommodate pretty much any paint bottle or pot on the market.
Being that this is from Cobalt Keep, they couldn’t be bothered to stop with a simple, modular paint rack. First, they made sure that the dimensions of the whole thing would fit comfortable inside the Ikea Kallax. They have stated that 32 racks will fit within the standard 8-cube Kallax, storing put to 640 bottles of paint. If space, or the lack there of, is an issue, the system is also designed to be wall mounted.
Currently the Kickstarter is well funded. As of the time of this writing, they have raised over $42,000 on a goal of $2,500 thanks to over 300 backers. This has unlocked a three-hilt stand, empty box bench insert, and the afformentioned wall mounting kit for backers at all levels. Speaking of pledge levels, there are four options to choose from, starting at $25 up to $130. There really is an option for every level of hobbyist.
A bit of full disclosure - we are NOT sponsored by Cobalt Keep, but we are massive fans of their product lines. We’ve gushed about their stuff in the past, like the Display Cases, and we use their paint handles and wet pallet in all of our painting videos/streams. That said, we are going to assume our samples got lost in the mail, Cobalt Keep.
In all seriousness, this looks like a fantastic option for painters. The customization alone makes it something that will benefit a vast array of hobbyists.
