‘UniVersus’ Enters New Era As Jasco Games Becomes UVS Games

It is the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one as Jasco Games, started in 1998, has been rebranded UVS Games.

Announced by company co-presidents Paul Wharshavsky and Luohan Wei in a special Youtube video, the rebranding to UVS Games is about taking UniVersus, the company’s flagship system, to the next level:

Our goals are to provide fans, no matter their background or level of experience, with accessible top-notch, high-quality collectible cards and content while also building strong relationships with them through exciting events such as tournaments or live streams where they can come together, share stories while having fun and creating lifelong memories playing these games.
— Luohan Wei, co-founder, UVS Games

Along with the rebranding announcement, UVS Games announced a visual update to the UniVersus cards themselves. The back of the cards feature the new UniVersus logo surrounded by a swirling vortex of energy meant to symbolize the previous UniVersus back, as well as the original Universal Fight System (UFS) backs.

The front of the cards are receiving a visual overhaul as well. The focus appears to be obtaining a balance between readability and showcasing the game’s beautiful artwork. The text boxes have been redesigned to focus on the abilities of the card, with resource symbols shifted to the bottom left of the card.

There is also an emphasis on the more art a card features, the hight its rarity. The higher rarity cards will feature invisible text boxes, no borders, and alternate art. Additionally they will be introducing various foil patterns to different rarity tiers.

The changes will debut with My Hero Academia CCG: Jet Burn later this year.

Finally, UVS Games announced a new product with the Challenger Series. This line features brand new preconstructed decks designed with veteran players in mind. Each Challenger Series deck included two character cards so that players have options on play style; mechanically unique cards as well as opportunities for reprints of previous releases; and finally a special Collector Booster. The Collector Booster will include 6 cards from the preconstructed deck with a special foil treatment, alternate art, and different flavor text (sometimes).

The biggest benefit of the Challenger Series is that it will often feature IPs separate from UniVersus’ current releases. The first two announced were Cowboy Bebop, featuring Spike and Faye, and Trigun: Stampede, featuring Vash the Stampede and Nicholas D. Wolfwood.

Needless to say we are massively excited for all of this and what it means for the future of one of our favorite trading card game systems. We will be here to cover any and all announcements as they come from UVS Games and UniVersus.
