Atomic Mass Games’ latest miniature game is a skirmish game set in the vast Star Wars universe. Players will build and customize their squads using either thematic teams pulled straight from the lore or pick and choose to build their own unique teams. Like their previous game, Marvel Crisis Protocol, players will use their characters’ unique abilities and powers to battle it out and compete over various objective on the battlefield.
The game, at least in terms of what was shown so far, seems to be firmly established in the prequel era of the franchise, more specifically the Clone Wars time period. The animated series seems to be playing a large role, with both character selection and design direction. Along with the like of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Count Dooku, we have characters pulled from the animated series like Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze, and Assaj Ventress. There also appears to be several “fodder” (or “grunts” if you prefer) style characters, with Clone Troopers and Battle Droids galore.
The miniatures look absolutely astounding and beautifully sculpted. While we haven’t been told specifics on the scale of the game, the detail on the models and the look of the bases definitely implies something more akin to 40mm scale of Marvel Crisis Protocol as opposed to the scale used in Star Wars Legion. Though the announcement is less than 24 hours old at this point, the game’s scale has already brought something of a polarizing effect to the festivities (just read the comments on any of Atomic Mass Games’ social media accounts).
At the moment we know very, very little beyond the teaser. The game is due out in Summer 2023. We are guessing it’ll either be on or around Star Wars Day (May 4th) or Gen Con 2023 (August 3rd through August 6th). A game of this magnitude needs a celebration behind it. We also aren’t aware of the game’s MSRP, though (again) we would guess around $99.99USD based on the costs of the Marvel Crisis Protocol and Star War Legions starter sets.
We will definitely be following this one closely over the next year, so keep tuned for future details.
