World Championships of Warhammer Previews: ‘Warhammer 40,000’ to ‘The Old World’
Games Workshop treated fans and players of their vast library of systems several previews of things to come in the new year for their favorite games. The previews were streamed during the World Championships of Warhammer.
Starting with the flagship title, Warhammer 40,000, we were given a look at upcoming releases for the Dark Angels and Necron forces.
The Dark Angels are getting a few new things that will make their armies all the more unique. First, players will be able to field a new unique model of Asmodai, the Master of Repentance. The model is an opposing looking piece with two head and backpack options. That is followed up by the Deathwing Knights. These elite troops come with a wide variety of options for weapons and headscultpts for all five models. Finally, they gave a peak at the updated Codex Roadmap, showing that the Codex Supplement: Dark Angels will release sometime in Spring 2024.
Necron players are in for a treat with the return of a character model that hasn’t been seen since 5th Edition (over a decade ago). Orikan the Diviner will be one of several new characters appearing in the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Crusade: Pariah Nexus. The new book will add additional contend for on-going narrative campaigns, including 15 missions and multiple upgrades.
Warhammer: Age of Sigmar saw a massive preview of new models for the Flesh-Eater Courts.
In what be the most insanely cool looking model from Age of Sigmar (in our humble opinion) in sometime, Ushoran, the Mortarch of Delusion has so many little details that you see something new every time you look at it. From various bones scattered about the base to the straight-up horror hidden within its cloak, we cannot decide if this model is going to be a painter’s sweetest dream or nastiest nightmare. The model releases alongside the Dawnbringers Book IV - The Mad King Rises, the next installment of the Dawnbringer campaign season for Age of Sigmar.
Joining the Mortarch of Delusion’s return to the Mortal Realms, they will be joined by a slew of loyal members of the Flesh-Eater Courts to take into battle. The Cryptguard (grunt infantry), Morbheg Knights (mounted fighters), Varghulf Courtiers (beasts/monsters), and the Abhorrent Cardinal and Royal Decapitator (character models) all bring something uniquely terrifying to the game. Additionally, players were also shown a special Flesh-Eater Courts Army Set. This special set includes an Abhorrent Gorewardren, 20 Cryptguard, 3 Morbheg Knights, an exclusive edition of the Battletome: Flesh-Eater Courts, and various exclusive cards and token.
For fans of Kill Team for its smaller model count, Games Workshop teased the upcoming release of the Night Lords’ kill team known simply as the Nemesis Claws. These killers are bred for close combat, equipped with weapons like lightning claws and Nostraman chainglaives. The kit includes an extra-large upgrade sprue full of additional details like winged helmets and draped skins. There will be new wargear for building unique models, such as the Ventrilokar icon bearer.
Finally, as hype for Warhammer: The Old World continues to build, they showed off a massive Necrolith Bone Dragon for the Tomb Kings. The all-new plastic kit builds either a Tomb King or High Priest riding atop the Necrolith Bone Dragon, each with their own unique palanquin. If players choose to build the High Priest, they can also make a Monarch of Nehekhara with the remaining Tomb King.
