GenCon 2023: HeroClix

During WizKids’ Fan Appreciation Night at GenCon this passed weekend, fans of the long running HeroClix Collectible Miniatures Game were treated to several teases and previews of the slew of released heading their way.

In September, players can look forward to DC HeroClix: Notorious. The game’s first ever all-villains set, Notorious will feature various rogues from all corners of the DC Universe. Storylines like DCeased and Injustice will be featured as well.

Marvel HeroClix: Wheels of Vengeance will be dropping in October. This set brings back the large, oversized boosters with four figures each. The boxes have been redesigned to be similar to WizKidsDungeons & Dragon blind boxes, offering a more convenient packaging for retailers. The set will feature all new extended base figures, many include the Hero-Glo effect.

Starting the new year off, Marvel HeroClix: Next Phase will release in December/January. This set is themed around the latest Disney+ offerings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It includes characters from She-Hulk, Hawkeye, Baby Groot, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and Werewolf by Night. Interestingly this set will launch the new Retail Chase Booster OP Kit. This new support for local game stores comes in a reusable “cigar box” type packaging and includes three random figures from the set (one being a guaranteed Chase), special dice, premium character cards, and poke-chip-style bystander tokens.

Marvel HeroClix: Deapool - Weapon X will release in May 2024. The new Marvel set focuses on Deadpool, going all the way back to the character’s original appearance in New Mutants. The set features multiple versions of Wolverine, Domino’s Hotshots, other X-Men, and alternate versions like Pandapool. Deadpool - Weapon X includes duo figure chases.

For the smaller HeroClix Iconix line, WizKids announced several new entries following September’s Batman and Robin and October’s Death of Superman. November will bring a special Iron Man Hall of Armors, with the year ending with the release of a Colossal Kong.

2024 will start off with a special Sherlock Holmes Iconix set, featuring two versions of Sherlock Holmes; Dr. Watson; Professor Moriarty; Irene Adler; and the Hound of Baskervilles. The set will be followed by an unnamed Valentines Day project (February), Peacemaker: On the Wings of Eagly (March), First Appearance Wolverine (March), and Peacemaker: Project Butterfly (May).
