Top 5 Wishes For Adepticon 2025
It is finally here. The start of the gaming convention season. Our first stop on the hype train is Adepticon 2025, this year coming from their new home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Not only is this the first year at the new venue, but it is the first show of a golden era for miniature games and the hobby. Never have more people been into collecting, painting, and playing miniature games. With all those eyes at Adepticon, the various publishers use it as an opportunity to announce and tease new things to entice the gamers. With that in mind, we wanted to speculate on the top five things we hope to see coming out of this year’s event.
#5. Warmachine Keynote
After acquiring the Iron Kingdom/Warmachine IP from Privateer Press, Steamforged Games have been on a massive roll with Warmachine. From the impressive two-player starter set (which we reviewed) to the launch of the Cryx Necrofactorium, the latest edition of the game that was once touted as the original “Warhammer Killer” has never been in a better shape. While Steamforged Games had a soft launch of the game under their banner at Gen Con 2024, Adepticon will be their first big show to really let fans see the future of the amazing game. They are hosting a keynote on the Thursday night of the show, discussing said future.
So what are we hoping to hear about at the keynote? The biggest thing that would make everything else icing on the cake would be to hear about the return of the Circle Orboros faction. When we first discovered Warmachine many, many moons ago, it was the massive beasts and wolves of the Circle Orboros that caught our imagination. Seeing them return to the tabletop, updated in Steamforged Games’ detail plastic would be amazing. Additionally, any details on a possible Grmykin rework would be awesome too.
Note: The Warmachine Keynote takes place at 9:55pm CDT on Thursday March 27. It can be watched live at the Steamforged Games YouTube channel.
#4. Halo: Flashpoint
Mantic Games did, in our humble opinion, the unthinkable - they created a fun, accessible, amazing miniature game based on a video game. A first person shooter, at that! There are a lot of games that have come before it, but they all made us think, “Why don’t I just play the video game?” Against the odds, Halo: Flashpoint makes us want to play more of the miniature game instead of the video game.
They have already teased new models, like new Spartans and Elites, but we are wanting to hear more on their vision for the future of the game in terms of a year or more out. Rules, tournament structure, vehicles…anything and everything. Something we would really love to hear about would be a set of hobby-specific models. As amazing as the included models in the starter boxes are, we would love some harder plastic models with richer details made for the hobbyist in mind.
#3. Warhammer Preview Night
It wouldn’t be an Adepticon without Games Workshop and their infamous preview night. Setting the stage for what gamers and hobbyists can expect to see at their friendly local game stores over the next several months, it is a night that usually covers all their key titles. The surprises can vary. Will it be a new edition of a hit game? Are they going to release a brand new faction that has never been seen before? Will another army be gutted and regulated to the likes of Legends and specialty titles?
We are coming off the wave of Emperor’s Children release for Warhammer 40,000, so we expect we’ll see what is in store for the other Chaos-heavy factions. Will Thousand Sons finally get some love? A teaser image on the Warhammer Community website seems to be hinting at some Tyranid styled terrain. Our money is either some print-to-demand terrain kit or they will finally unleash the Tyranids into Warhammer: Kill Team. Either way, we’ll be buying way too much of it.
Ultimately, however, what we want to see is the new wave of Soulblight Graveyards for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. They revealed and teased several new models, such as the amazing looking Vhordrai riding atop Shordemaire, Lord of Revenant, at LVO back in January. When we visited our newly opened local Warhammer store in town, I kept trying to get some information about a release date but they were tight lipped. Release date? Scope of range refresh? How many new models? We need this information!
Note: The Warhammer Preview Show: AdeptiCon 2025 starts at 9pm CDT on Wednesday March 26, and can be watched live on official Twitch channel.
#2. Ignition:Core Games Relaunch of Relic Knights
This one is both a little bit of a cheat and something we never thought we would be talking about.
It is a cheat because we know for a fact that the game is being relaunched at Adepticon 2025. The Relic Knights: Radiant vs. Void Two-Player Starter, three additional models, and a whole host of additional accessories will be available Day 1 of Adepticon. We’ve been covering the release announcements rather extensively on the site. Why it is is something we never thought I’d be talking about it because of the way the game’s previous Kickstarter was…managed. As a backer of said Kickstarter, the less said on that the better.
That being said, having been apart of Ignition:Core Games’ discord and chatting ever so briefly with the person who is now in charge and taking a chance bringing the game back, we are hoping to hear of successful demoes, sold out stock, news of the future. There is a great community, both in terms of the Relic Knight community and the one built up around Ignition:Core Games, that we want to see this game succeed. We know some details about the structure of future releases, such as what the next faction focuses will be, should the game be successful at launch.
On a slightly selfish note, one of the models that made us want to back the original Kickstarter was the Darkspace Marikan To model. Why? Because we are a massive Bayonetta fan. We need the game to be a big enough success to hopefully see that model gets checked off their wishlist and we see it produced.
#1. Atomic Mass Games Finally Announces Marvel’s First Family
Alright, please don’t get too annoyed by this. As far as wishlists go, this is the most wished for thing by many in the community we are sure.
We love Atomic Mass Games. Both Marvel Crisis Protocol and Star Wars: Shatterpoint are two of our top miniature games of all time. Yes, we mean that. The rules are tight and concise. Gameplay is quick. The models are beautiful works of 40mm-ish artwork. Well, save for a few other Crisis Protocol’s earlier ones that were a pain to assemble. But that is just a hiccup or slight growing pain of a brand new game from a brand new company. Even when we have no interest in particular models, we still collect them for the sake of wanting to have a complete collection and the joy we get from the hobby aspect.
Yet the game of Marvel Crisis Protocol has a glaring omission in its vast portfolio of characters and teams - the Fantastic Four.
Since the first day, we’ve had growing rosters of Avengers, Defenders, various villain groups, both Spider-Man heroes and Sinister Six villains. Later on, multiple mutant and mystical related factions emerged and were expanded upon. Still some six years later, we are missing one of the most key groups in the game. Which is sort of ironic given that the multitude of heroes that have been members of the various rosters of the Fantastic Four are present in the game and could make them, just not with the First Family.
We understand that game’s fourth anniversary was probably still in the weird window of the characters’ right dispute with Fox and what have you, but now is the time. 2025 is shaping up to be the Fantastic Four’s year. They are getting their first feature film as a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will be leading into the upcoming Avengers films. In the comic book world, they are a part of the universe spanning “One World Under Doom” event in which Doctor Doom has become the latest Sorcerer Supreme and create a new world order. We aren’t even going to go into detail the wave of interest they got when they were introduced into the hit video game Marvel Rivals.
So much momentum at the moment. It is time to capitalize on it, AMG!
