A New Home and Future for The Late Night Players
Welcome to the new home of The Late Night Players.
It is a little odd to be writing this on our own dedicated website now as opposed to our original home over at WordPress. I started The Late Night Players blog on there in early 2014 after working a rather grueling holiday season at my retail job at the time. What originally started out as a random collection of thoughts on various games my brother and I were playing at the time eventually became something more. I began writing on various things, from reviews to news, about the games we loved to play into long into the night (hence the site’s name).
In 2018, I found myself displaced from that same retail job and had a lot more free time to really get into the games I was writing about. Then something out of left field happened in the early days of 2019. I stumbled across an online listing for a freelance writer on the amazing website ICv2. I figured what was the worst that could happen? So I reached out and sure enough, I soon found myself writing articles about games and comics. It was a bit of a dream job, honestly.
Then 2020 happened. We were all there, no need to go into it. Right?
Needless to say I found myself with a lot more free time and really buried myself into the whole game journalism world. That is when I feel The Late Night Players blog really began to mature into what I originally envisioned it becoming all those years prior.
You’re probably asking yourself, “Ok, that’s cool and all, but why the history lesson?”
I have always been a stern believer in that you cannot appreciate the here and now without at least understanding what came before it. At some point this has become something more than just a simple hobby blog. The realization hit me like a runaway train at Gen Con 2022 this passed August when I was one of the lucky ones to receive a press badge to the greatest week in gaming. I had applied on a whim, similarly to how I reached out about the freelance job, and someone had to have looked at the blog and liked what I was doing. That is when I knew it was time to take it up a notch.
So here we are. A dedicated website and a proper domain that is 100% ours. To say I’m a bit nervous would be an understatement. By launching this, I am putting my money where my mouth is and stating that The Late Night Players is a force to be reckoned with in the gaming world. Not only will its successes be measurable, but so too would be any failures.
Yet, as nervous as I am about this new venture, I am confident that this is the right move. I have so much planned for The Late Night Players that I want to share with the world. For now, however, baby steps.
So welcome to the new home of this passion project of mine. Feel free to reach out with any thoughts or comments, I would love to hear them.
Until next time, as always, keep your dice warm and happy gaming.
